INTRODUCTIONS

Women and girls empowerment in Meru County is one of the major challenges in the region, a county where male chauvinism has been ‘roaring’ not allowing women to own property, a community where a women has no right to to correct a man and  a community where a girl has to undergo Female genital mutilation to be considered as a grown woman, a community where women are the only individuals left to do all the work in the farm as men enjoy their morning breeze with fellow men discussing ‘community matters’. With these empowering women has been a major challenge for the past decades.

To date, CIFORD Kenya is a community based organization has been able to change the game with little  bench marking and finances. By involving men in different projects including agricultural activities, men have understood the importance of assisting in farm work and togetherness with the women to bring food on the table, they say ‘united we stand, divided we fall’ has been the major driving unit for the families as CIFORD realized that empowering women was becoming tough without bringing men on board.

  • Involving men in activities thought to be of women such as agriculture, family planning and disease control and prevention has been a major boost to the organization and we consider it as a success. ‘I no longer wake up early  to go to the market place which I thought was normal after seeing my father do it,  instead, , I accompany my wife to the farm  to help her, she used to work the whole day in the farm but when we are together we work for a half a day, this gives her more time to rest and focus on the household duties  and caring for our children which we also share, as she prepare food I can be in the farm fetching feeds for the animals’ Kailikia  a member of Inua maisha group.  “This has greatly improved our relationship”
  • Kailikia Tending to their onions.
  • With more support we can change the game, With limited resources CIFORD Kenya has improved the lives  of a woman in Meru county. With your support we can involve men in women empowerment by them helping the women. Support CIFORD to be Game  changer in the Society.
